Multicultural Festival

Bel Air Elementary's Multicultural Festival is on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 10:00AM-2:00PM. We are looking for volunteers to host the cultural learning stations, participate in musical performances or in the Parade of Nations, and to donate food and drinks for the potluck luncheon. Please contact Ms. Setorie at 703-670-4050 if you are able to contribute or volunteer.

School Breakfast Program

Parents, please be advised that we serve breakfast and lunch every day for ALL Bel Air students. We are encouraging all parents to participate in our breakfast and lunch program. Students who qualify for FREE/REDUCED lunch/breakfast may eat free or pay the reduced price. Breakfast is also available to ALL students who are on paid status. The cost is $2.10. Please encourage your children to start the day on the right track by eating a hot or cold breakfast daily.

Medicine in School

Parents if your child is sick and needs to take medicine at some point during the day, please contact our school nurse, Ruth Kuzemchak or the front office for our guidelines. Students should not be carrying or taking any kind of over the counter or prescription medication in school. We are asking for your help in this matter, in order to keep all students safe.

School Attendance
It is very important that the children are in school by 8:30am if they are eating breakfast and by 8:45am for the start of our school day. If the children are always late to school, they are missing their morning language arts and math work. Ms. Marshall, our school counselor and Ms. Blythe, our school social worker will be sending letters home if your child has 6 or more unexcused or unverified absences. We will also make a recommendation to the school attendance officer. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please call Ms. Evelyn Hussain at 703-670-4050. If your child attends Bel Air based on an approved transfer, please be advised that your transfer request for next school year may be denied as per Regulation 721-1.

Lunch Money and Accounts

Parents, please make sure you are monitoring lunch balances.  If your child owes more than $8.00, they will eat a fruit, granola bar, and milk for lunch.  Students with over due balances of $8.00 or more will not eat a hot lunch.  We have free and reduced applications available in the front office.  You can stop by anytime to complete the application. To apply online, go to www.pwcs.edu.  Parents who are interested in putting money on their child’s account can go to www.mylunchmoney.com.  If you have any questions, please call the cafeteria manager, Mrs. Carter, at 703-670-0737 or call the front office at 703-670-4050.

Bel Air Elementary School/Bel Air PTA

Beginning today, the PTA will be printing their own newsletter and calendar of events. Please look for these in your child’s Tuesday Folder along with the current edition of the Panther Press. Thank you for your support of the Bel Air PTA!

NO U-TURNS IN THE SCHOOL ZONE

There is absolutely no U-Turns in the school zone during morning drop off or afternoon pick up. In order to complete a U-Turn, parents must pass the crossing guard or the drop off area. I will be contacting the local police to randomly patrol the area so that we can be sure our students are safe.
